Zorco Sabatz was born in Pola in 1907.

After his childhood, spent between his native city and Naples, he joined the navy in 1927 at the age of 20.

In the 1940’, with the start of the second world war, he was called back to the army.

During this conflict he was imprisoned by the British.

He spent one year of reclusion in Egypt and South Africa, but with the liberation in the 1943, he was repatriated in Italy. After completing three years more service, once he had  finished his duty, he started working on a cruise ship.

His exile spirit and the call of the sea, would take him sailing for thousand of miles, along the routes of the naval company : from the Trieste harbour to Aden, from the Red sea to the Indian Ocean.

Long months of travel, and the discovery of distant places, heretofore unknow to him.

India, Ceylon, Melaka, Java, Singapore, Honk Kong...: his precious tales of far away lands, evoke visions of the times and atmospheres of far off places and the slightly dreamy aesthetic of his images, keeps alive the simplicity of that lost world, as seen and told through his eyes and memories.

Zorco Sabatz Fotografie is a project of

Filippo Masè and Barbara Pavan Emaldi
